Baby carrying basics

When you first start carrying your (by your I mean child, grandchild, adoptee etc) baby. There are so many different kinds of slings, stretchy ones, woven wraps, ones with buckled straps, straps that tie, some have rings the list goes on. We aren’t here to talk about those though.  Regardless of what you use to carry you need to ensure it’s safe.

There are lots of different babywearing safety tips and tricks. I just want to spend a moment to talk about these. I did a quick search on google and so many things come up!
As you can see the T.I.C.K.S rules come up a few times so let’s talk about that for a minute.

The T.I.C.K.S were originally formed by The Consortium of UK Sling Manufacturers and Retailers.

The only problem with it is that most of it isn’t safety it’s more about comfort.

The next one I want to mention is ABC

ABC was made by babywearing international. The A is safety and again B&C are comfort.

Both of these are wonderful tools and infograms, but they are so big, and not that easy to remember. I know many people that have been in the baby wearing world a long time and still wouldn’t be able to tell me what T.I.C.K.S stands for and that’s ok.

I believe we need something that is quick and easy and simple to remember. So I wrote you a limerick. I hope you like it and that it helps you remember the important safety measures you need. Here goes…

Before you carry your bambino

There’s a few things you need to know

Make sure their airway is clear

You can put your hands in the air

And boom you’re ready to go.

Trying to get fit!

This is a boasting blog.

Yesterday my activity tracker (my watch) told me I burnt the most amount of calories ever in a single day.

I’m proud of myself but also slightly annoyed, as I upped my daily move goal from 330 calories to 400 (even though my watch wanted me to have it as 540 😳). If I had not up my move goal then I would have tripled my goal. I will achieve that badge!

So yesterday I did 2 classes

The HIIT class I did was Boogie Bounce if you aren’t familiar it’s a trampette with a handle

You have to do different bounces etc to the music. It’s really fun and is a great cardio workout and it’s really good for balance!

I then went to an Aerial Hoop class

Learning moves like this^ Aerial is a great strength workout, it works every part of your body, especially arms and core.

I really enjoy both these classes and it’s a challenge each time which I need to keep me interesting and going back.

Slingababy Consultant

So today was the last day of my 4 days training with the oh so lovely Lorette (roll that r 😉) from Slingababy

I’ve had a wonderful time learning, learning new skills and techniques. But more than that I learnt to never judge, you will meet all kinds of people that want to carry their baby/ toddler/ grandchild/ child mindee etc, people carry for all kinds of reasons. Whatever that reason or however they carry it should be celebrated. In the western world we live in we have become so accustomed to putting baby down and not making them ‘clingy’. You CANNOT spoil your child with love ❤️.

It was really important for me to go and remind myself why I run a sling library. This gave me the chance to reconnect and be around people that love slings and love carrying.

I look forward to empowering people in making the right choices about the way they carry their baby’s.

From the bottom of my heart Lorette thank you ❤️❤️

Boys with long hair.

I have 2 beautiful boys who both happen to have long blonde hair.

Sometimes they let me tie it up, sometimes they don’t!

The often get called girls because of their despite the fact they wear ‘boys’ clothes. We are all constantly correcting people. Some people apologise, some don’t! Some get really defensive, which I don’t understand if anything it should be the other way round.

There’s still a massive stigma around boys having long hair despite top knots being all the rage. So let’s pretend you have a boy with long hair and you go shopping to buy them something to tie it back with……where do you go? What do you buy? Everything is pink and sparkly and aimed at girls, there’s a massive gap in the market for boys hair ties. I made my own!

They have cars, boats, dinosaurs etc the rabbit was a special request from my oldest so I made that for him.

The boys don’t want their hair cut. It’s their hair and they will tell me when they are ready to have it cut, when that time comes we will go together and have whatever he wants doing to it done.

So yes I have 2 boys, yes they have long hair and no I don’t want to just cut it, no I didn’t wish they were girls. Please let children be children 👶

Tried something new 🥊

Yesterday I decided I wanted to start boxing partly because I wanted to hit stuff but also because I had heard it burns serious calories! I’ve been trying to exercise more to get fitter and lose weight (I can feel a slight improvement to my fitness but not my weight.) Anyway a friend on Facebook advertised a new boxing class starting 5 mins from my house 🏡

Today I just decided today was that day that I would go! I went alone which is really scary when your overweight entering a gym full of perfect triangles (those perfect men shaped like diarylea triangles while I resemble the box)

Gets in the class and I’m still nervous but it’s too late to back out now. I’m not going to bore you with the contents of the class but let me tell you it was hard work! I popped the workout app on my watch on just to see. Turns out I did 304 calories in 40 mins, it stopped working after that (must have caught it when I put gloves on)

I went home and I literally couldn’t stop shaking, I tried to eat but it made very little difference. My only problem was that I needed to get ready for work! I ended up calling my friend to come and do my makeup I just couldn’t do it. I have never ever felt like that after exercise. So I decided to sign up to the local White Collar Boxing events for charity. So watch this space as I train for that!

My heart and soul

Recently we found out that the landlord has decided to sell the house we live in 😩 We’ve lived in this house for 6 years. Since we moved in the boys have come along and at one point thought this house was too small and didn’t work for us as a family. I then stumbled across a book The Life Changing Magic of Tidying and for the last 2 years I’ve been following her system and making my home spark joy 💥.

Here’s the changes

Kitchen –

Living room –

Bathroom –

Spare bedroom –

Dressing room –

Bedroom –

The estate agents are coming to measure up and take photos next week and my heart is breaking for the love, time, effort and money I’ve put into making this house a home we want and love ❤️.

At this stage I don’t know what our options are, the landlord hasn’t really spoke to us. All I can hope is that the house can be sold with us as sitting tenants and the new landlord is nice and won’t want us out.

If you have any advice as to what we should do next please get in touch 😘

Trials of a toddler

We had a lovely lazy morning just playing at home. I’d booked for us to go to the local trampoline park for the toddler session, it’s cheaper and it’s not as busy, plus both the boys can jump at the same time. Which isn’t the case for an open jump. Anyway!

We decided on Subway for lunch and whilst sat eating the baby has an accident, more like a dribble. We rush to the toilet only for him to manage to wee all over himself and not in the toilet 🙄 it’s ok I have spare clothes in the car 🚗.

Nope…..I had instructed my oh to bring all the clothes out the car last night thinking that they still had some in the bag *sigh* by this point it was time to be at the trampoline park and I have a crying J who couldn’t understand why we had to go home.

We made it back with half the session left.

The little monkeys still had a great time and didn’t want to leave ❤️

Welcome to my blog.

Hi my name is Leah and I started this blog to show the ups and downs of normal life.

I’m a mother to 2 small humans, both are boys, both have gorgeous long blonde hair (maybe that doesn’t matter to most but it’s important for later when they get called girls!) J is 5 and A is 3 we home educate so this blog will contain some of that too!

I also work part time as a photographer/ bar staff in a late night bar, I am a Younique presenter and I run a sling library (voluntarily) so expect all of these to crop up at some point.  This is us, I look forward to chatting with you all again soon.
