When you first start carrying your (by your I mean child, grandchild, adoptee etc) baby. There are so many different kinds of slings, stretchy ones, woven wraps, ones with buckled straps, straps that tie, some have rings the list goes on. We aren’t here to talk about those though. Regardless of what you use to carry you need to ensure it’s safe.
There are lots of different babywearing safety tips and tricks. I just want to spend a moment to talk about these. I did a quick search on google and so many things come up!
As you can see the T.I.C.K.S rules come up a few times so let’s talk about that for a minute.
The T.I.C.K.S were originally formed by The Consortium of UK Sling Manufacturers and Retailers.
The only problem with it is that most of it isn’t safety it’s more about comfort.
ABC was made by babywearing international. The A is safety and again B&C are comfort.
Both of these are wonderful tools and infograms, but they are so big, and not that easy to remember. I know many people that have been in the baby wearing world a long time and still wouldn’t be able to tell me what T.I.C.K.S stands for and that’s ok.
I believe we need something that is quick and easy and simple to remember. So I wrote you a limerick. I hope you like it and that it helps you remember the important safety measures you need. Here goes…
Before you carry your bambino
There’s a few things you need to know
Make sure their airway is clear
You can put your hands in the air
And boom you’re ready to go.
